Congratulations on your engagement! As you prepare for your engagement session, it is important to keep in mind that this is a time to capture your love story and showcase your personalities as a couple. Here are some tips to help you prepare for your engagement session:
- Choose outfits that fit your personality and style.
When choosing outfits for your engagement session, it’s important to choose something that you feel comfortable and confident in. You want to choose outfits that complement each other, but don’t necessarily match. Think about your personal style and what you would wear on a special occasion. It’s important to also consider the location of your shoot and choose outfits that will complement the surroundings. Don’t be afraid to bring multiple outfit options to your session. (I usually allow for 2, one casual and one more “formal/dressy”)
- Professional hair and makeup can make a big difference.
Professional hair and makeup can elevate your engagement photos to the next level. It’s important to look and feel your best for these photos. A professional hair and makeup artist can help you achieve the look you want and make sure it lasts throughout the session. It’s important to schedule your hair and makeup appointment at least 2 hours before your session to allow enough time for touch-ups and travel. Also, the engagement session is a perfect time to utilize a hair and makeup trial with your wedding day artist!
- Choose a location that is special to you and tells your story as a couple.
Choosing a location that is special to you as a couple can make your engagement photos even more meaningful. Think about places that are significant to your relationship, such as where you had your first date, where you got engaged, or a favorite hangout spot. It’s important to also consider the time of day and lighting when choosing a location. Your photographer (hopefully it’s me!) can also help you choose a location that will work well for photos, and tell your story as a couple!
- Relax and have fun!
The most important thing to remember during your engagement session is to relax and have fun! This is a time to celebrate your love and capture your relationship. I will guide you through the session and help you feel comfortable in front of the camera. It’s important to trust me and enjoy the moment. I love to use sarcasm, and maybe a good joke or two to really get some genuine laughter from you both. Living in the moment, and taking this time to revel in your engagement is so important.
We hope these tips help you prepare for your engagement session. Congratulations again on your engagement, and I can’t wait to capture your engagement session soon!
